How it went down...

There’s something magical about being part of a proposal—especially when I get to help plan the surprise! Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing a beautiful beachfront proposal for a sweet couple visiting from Indiana. The boyfriend reached out to me through my website, knowing only one thing: he wanted to propose and have photos of the moment. The rest? That’s where I came in!

The Plan: A “Normal” Photoshoot—With a Twist

Since his girlfriend had no idea what was coming, we decided to make it feel like a standard couples' photoshoot at the beach. This way, she wouldn’t be suspicious, and I could guide them naturally through the session while setting up the perfect moment. We picked a stunning location in Fort Lauderdale, right as the sun was beginning to set—a dreamy backdrop for such a special occasion.

With my documentary-style prompts, I kept them engaged in fun, movement-based poses, making sure she was completely in the moment and unaware of what was about to happen. Meanwhile, I had given him a cue earlier—when the timing was just right, I would tell him to go for it.

The Big Moment

As they laughed and played in the waves, I signaled him, keeping her distracted just long enough for him to get down on one knee. The moment she turned around, the joy and surprise on her face were absolutely priceless! Being able to capture such a raw, emotional moment is exactly why I love what I do. From happy tears to uncontrollable laughter, every expression was pure magic.
