There’s something about capturing the exact moment someone says “yes” that just never gets old. I still get butterflies every time a boyfriend reaches out to me to photograph their proposal — and lately, more and more are finding their way to me, and I couldn’t be more honored. It truly means the world to be trusted with such a huge, emotional, once-in-a-lifetime moment.
This recent proposal in Fort Lauderdale was such a fun and thoughtful one. The groom-to-be reached out with a clear vision: he wanted a stunning location with those iconic Florida beach rocks, the ocean crashing behind them, and all the drama and romance of golden hour. There was just one little twist — he didn’t want his girlfriend to catch on.
You see, they normally go to a completely different beach for their date nights, so suddenly switching it up might raise a red flag. So he had a brilliant idea: he asked if I could pretend to be a random beachgoer at their usual spot, discreetly capturing the proposal while staying totally under the radar. Then, after the big surprise, we’d head to my secret beach location for the rest of the dreamy engagement photos.
Of course, I said yes (my version of yes to a proposal 😉)!
The plan went off perfectly. She was completely surprised — no suspicions, no hints. I was even taking decoy photos of someone parasailing just in case she looked over and spotted me. Talk about commitment to the undercover role!
After she said yes (cue the tears and happy dancing), we made our way to the hidden gem of a spot with the rocks and that stunning light. These two were so sweet, so in love, and so clearly meant for each other. It was the perfect ending to the perfect surprise.
